Editorial Performance Notes

A classroom becomes a musical revue

The stage adaptation turns a nervous teacher's thoughts into characters, songs, and visible theatrical choices rather than leaving learning trapped inside a television set.

Scott Ferguson, George Keating, and Kyle Hall wrote the book from the television series, with songs by Lynn Ahrens, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, George Newall, Kathy Mandry, and Tom Yohe. The structure is revue-like: each number has its own hook, color, and rhythmic identity, but all of them must help Tom cross the larger scene from anxiety toward confidence.

Graphic primary color, clean frontal staging, and quick musical handoffs suit material built from animated lessons. The ensemble has to change function instantly (inner voice, teacher, noun, number, citizen) while maintaining diction precise enough for the lyric to teach on first hearing.
